Week 1 Background Research

There is a lot of different facets that make up the city of Venice, and when studying how to get around in the city, it is important to have a certain degree of background the city. Venice is incredibly unique and has so many different lenses through which to view it. As I begin to look through background information on the city itself, it is incredibly overwhelming and hard to know where to begin. Everything about the streets are new, the construction, the different forms of wear and tear, and the amount of bottlenecks. There is nowhere else that has so many different places where streets change dimensions.

Another interesting place that I began looking into is different places around the world where they have done pedestrian studies as well. In the link below, there is a study done by a university in china, and in the second link, a study done in India. In each of these countries, there are also unique problems, but they also relate well to Venice in the sense that they have to service an extraordinary amount of people. Looking at ways that different areas around the world have come up with for rating sidewalks and pedestrian streets, and their anticipated max flow, creates a concrete place to be able to work of of.
