This week I learned about public transportation throughout Venice. Venetian public transportation is broken into a small number of groups. Most notably there are the Traghettis, which are family owned boats businesses, and the ACTV, which is the venetian public boat system. the Traghettis operate within a limited scope and mostly just act as bridges across the grand canal. There are seven of these being operated in Venice currently. The ACTV is a much more extensive boating operation which is operated by the government as far as I can tell. The extent of personal boats which operate in Venice is unclear to me right now but I intend to explore the issue in the future. The eventual goal would be to obtain my own boat for use while I am in Venice.
