One of our tasks this week was to research into the history of Venice and acquaint ourselves with the city we will soon be a part of. In ID2050 we have been watching Vidal in Venice, which if you have the time I really recommend. Vidal goes through parts of the history of Venice and really introduces the viewer to much of Venice I didn't know existed. Along with Vidal in Venice, this week I did a lot of reading of past IQP's. While I learned about different topics that have been covered by the VPC I really was interested in the little factoids that each group used to really hook the reader. Below are some of the fun facts I've learned this week.
1. There have only ever been in the history of Venice, 3 million Venetians
2. The size of Venice is roughly the size of Boston Logan Airport
3. There are over 2,000 streets in Venice
4. Over 160 boats comprise the public transportation in Venice
5. The Black Plague, and really any illness, decimates Venice due to its island and trade nature
6. At any given time in the city tourists out number Venetians 4:1
Also I really recommend giving Vidal a moment of your time and watching this quick video.
