As we dive into the logistics with each of our deliverables, one very useful resource is Geographical Information Systems (GIS). This allows for extremely accurate modeling of cities, in our case, of Venice. We learned in our advisors meeting that past projects have utilized QGIS as a method of creating layers that model the streets of Venice and their lengths. GIS data is incredibly accurate, and is able to be used to measure actual distances between objects, buildings, or monuments. This is going to be incredibly helpful as we move towards doing preparatory work for our trip.
While I haven't used this type of software before, I was able to look up many of its uses where people have previously used it to model streets and create pathways. It has an incredible amount of uses and can be used in a variety of methods. I am incredibly impressed with the possibilities opened up by this software and look forward to using it in our project. below is a picture of a similar interface with pathways modeled for a smaller city.
