For an ID 2050 assignment this week, we looked into various aspects of the history surrounding the unique city of venice. Something that I came across and was pretty surprised about was the amount of families that controlled venice through the 12th through the 17th centuries. It wasn't always in the broad reacvh of empires, but sometimes very obviously governed solely by a family. I think each of these were able to bring personal touches to the city, leading to much of the compilation of styles present today.

When you see pictures of houses lining canals or even the skyline of the city, I think that a lot of the beauty of the city is seen in the compilation of individual styles. While there is some unifying aspects in terms of the style of architecture present due to the time period of their construction, most buildings are very personalized and very colorful, at least in the public image. I think that this is a reason that people are so drawn to the city, in a modern day, where people who live in cities that are mostly grey and glass, this offers a different perspective on how it is possible to live and work in a city.
