We have been in class for almost four full weeks so the term is almost over. This means our prep time is almost over. The past four weeks have gone by so fast I am almost nervous we don't have enough time to do everything we want to do. We have such great ideas that can help the city of Venice. We finalized our goals for the term and I am happy to have a direction. We will be breaking down already mapped out streets in the QGIS system to street segments. By doing this we will be able to better predict traffic throughout the city with more central and localized targets to pinpoint data too.
Below is a graphic of the QGIS software. GIS is a geographical information system, similar to the CAD programing that allows the user to map locations with accurate respects to the rest of the world. It is going to be very beneficial and has already proven its worth to past IQP groups.
The fears are starting to set in though that we have a lot of work to do, and not enough time to do it. I started ID2050 with such lofty goals for our project and now I am starting to realize that even though we have 14 weeks to help Venice we are tackling problems that affect the city year round, 24/7. My hope is that, while what we do may not have a big impact, it will be a small step in the right direction and a place for jumping from for years to come.
