Recently our group was granted access to the bell tower and bells data that has been collected since 2004! These spreadsheets are especially important to our continuation of the bells and bell towers project as it has all the bell towers listed as well as what has been collected in recent years and what needs to be updated. After discussing as a group we decided that it is important for all the data for the exterior of bell towers to be reported during our time in Venice. This will be as simple as just walking to each tower and looking (or taking a picture for later reference) for the data we need. By doing this we will be able to report the building material of the bell tower, exterior block height and width, and number of windows on each side of the tower. Below is a snapshot of the data spreadsheet. Once we are able to get in contact with our sponsor, Don Caputo, we will be able to determine which bell towers are deemed safe for us to visit and we will be able to fill out more specific data for the spreadsheets.
Another piece of information that we learned about this week was how we are going to be using the CK console. To our understanding, the CK Console will take the data that we have collected and added to these spreadsheets, and add it to the Venipedia page. We will update the inventory of bells by using this CK application which provides the capability to document the 360 degree body of the bell with a go-pro. This specifically includes the inside of the bell and its location within the belfry, as well as its mechanisms and frames. This same application is able to record the bell's sound and detects the bell tower vibration when all the bells sound together!
