With a blink of the eye the first two weeks of ID 2050 and our first PQP meeting have already come and gone. This past Wednesday afternoon was our first PQP (pre – qualifying project) meeting where we were able to begin the process of learning everything we need to know about our specific project focusing on the Bell Towers of Venice. As a team, we were able to meet with our advisor, Professor Fabio Carrera and the co – adviser Professor Lorraine Higgins through Google Hangout.
The PQP meeting quickly turned into an introduction to not only the project but to one another. We went around the room explaining our name, major, hometown and most importantly, why we chose our specific project. For me specifically, the bell towers project was the most fascinating as it heavily related to my major and interest of Architectural Engineering. I love the idea of working with the ancient Bell Towers of Venice in terms of collecting their architectural history as well as understanding their role to the city of Venice.
During the past two weeks my team has done a lot with the organization of this project. Our team’s Google Drive is coming together nicely and as a team we are really starting to get to know each other and understanding each person’s strengths and weaknesses. We began doing the beginning stages of research and found over 12 sources that relate to the background knowledge of our project as well as potential ways to repurpose bell towers. Within the next few days we will be meeting with our research librarian to review these sources and learn proper ways for APA citations.
I look forward to the weeks to come with not only digging deeper into the project and potential solutions but also getting to know my team and the rest of the people going to Venice!
Until next time,
Meghan
