This past week, the team went through previous IQP project spreadsheets to determine what data will need to be recorded while in Venice. While compiling visual and measurable data from three different spreadsheets, it was determined that the less relevant information would be omitted. Most cells are empty and by eliminating specific categories, the Venipedia pages will look more professional and the important details will be highlighted. Until we are able to see the type of data we can collect in Venice, the spreadsheet will still contain all 116 data fields. 107 bell towers are listed by their 4 letter identifier and are separated by the foundation, shaft, belfry and roof. Below is the link to the our overall spreadsheet where data will be verified and as well as collected.
To prioritize the towers, it was decided that the towers with the least amount of data to update would be visited first. Of course, this plan will likely change once confirmation from Don Caputo is obtained. It is important that there is respect for his decisions and his guidance is strictly followed. After completing a ranking list of the towers, it was sent to Don Caputo for analyzing. He was able to relay to us that some towers would be inaccessible, but there are many opportunities for other tower investigations. Most bell towers are not open to the public, meaning that permission must be granted by the overseers of the towers for a group to enter. In the case of this project, ascended surveys of bell towers will only take place if the tower is categorized as safe.
