To determine the accessibility of each staircase with in the tower, a rating based on both sturdiness and cleanliness was given. The structural rating among each staircase was determined based on how supportive it was as well as the ease of usage based on personal experience. This was used to average the staircase per tower as well as the the cleanliness among each staircase. These values were then combined to access the towers’ staircases as a whole and then it was compared against the percentage of bad steps per tower. The rating was then rounded to the nearest whole number to determine its rating from very poor to excellent.
When accessing the belfry, the area of the belfry door, area of the belfry, and the shortest clapper to floor distance was compiled. We chose these values to focus on because if we were to open a bell tower to the public it would be important to make sure the bells are not a safety hazard and that the average person could actually fit comfortably into the belfry. This rating of accessibility was also based on our personal experience in the tower.
