Greetings from Worcester,
With the end of summer upon us we reconvene at WPI to begin preparations for the excited term that is to follow. The first week of ID 2050 was aimed at dividing us into teams to pursue each of the projects we deemed most interesting. The team I was selected to be in was Belluve, or the bell tower group. Our group consists of a bio-medical engineer, an architectural engineer, and two robotics engineers including myself.
Without any delay we were launched into action. We began by reviewing the basics of our project and looked at past years work to get an idea of where we were heading. We went to our first PQP meeting to introduce ourselves to our adviser, Professor Fabio Carrera and the co adviser, Professor Lorraine Higgins. The meeting was aided with google hangout to communicate with members absent in person.
During the meeting aspects of the Venice Bell Project were discussed, such as expectations, deliverables and the continuation of where others left off. In addition, other potential deliverables and projects were proposed and discussed briefly.
Over the past week following the meeting we made great strides as a team. We set up multiple email aliases, a functioning website, team agendas, and much more. We began our dedicated research on the towers and culture of Venice and brought up anything we thought may be useful. We have approximately a dozen or so sources as of now that we want to bring up for review with our librarian in the upcoming week. In addition we discussed our teams strengths and weaknesses and got a feel for what we wanted to do as a team. We also discussed other possible projects we could bring up at our following PQP meetings. Our main focus was coming up with a modern way to renew the public's interest in the bells in an attempt to gain support and help preserve them.
The goal for next week is to finalize what we want to accomplish and what our ultimate goal will be. To lay down exactly what deliverables we know we can deliver and maybe set some stretch goals. Once our project is finalized we can refine our research and begin building towards our end deliverables.
Arrivederci!
