Fundraising - Use of Scout's Account

Our main fundraising activity is the annual Popcorn sale which generates funds for both Troop 266 and our Scout Council.

Each boy is responsible for selling at least $200 worth of popcorn which can come from any combination of "show & sell" at Supermarkets, order forms or donations. Families with more than one son in the Troop are required to raise $200 for the first son and $100 for each additional son. For example, a family with 2 scouts is expected to raise a minimum of $300 ($200 plus $100). The minimum requirement is at the family level so one brother could sell $50 and the other $250 and the family will have met its overall $300 requirement.

If a scout sells below the minimum, the family needs to make up the shortfall. For example, if a Scout sells $180 worth of popcorn at "show & sell", the family needs to either buy $20 of popcorn or make a donation for the the same gross amount.

Scouts that sell more than the minimum requirement will earn a credit which can be used to pay for certain future Troop related activities. The troop receives 40% of the gross amount sold.

If a Scout sells $500 worth of popcorn, he would receive a $120 credit his Troop account.

Gross sales of $500 – $200 (minimum) = $300.

Troop profit (40%) on the $300 is $120 ($300 X 40%= $120).

Families with two sons can get a credit for the profit on sales over $300 and the earned credits can be used for either son in the future.

Credits stay in the troop account until used by the scout for approved future Troop 266 activities. Credits in the Scouts account do not vest and any unused funds stay with the Troop when a Scout leaves the Troop. Brothers can transfer unused credits to their siblings, but credits can not be transferred to other Scouts.
