BSA Search & Rescue Merit Badge

Post date: Jan 08, 2014 10:15:24 PM

Thank you very much to Mrs. Rolan for arranging a visit by Mr. Scott Armstrong to our troop meeting next week Jan 14th to serve as the SAR merit badge councilor. Mr. Armstrong is the Director of Emergency Rescue Service in the San Gabriel Valley. He is a trainer with Boy Scouts "High Adventure Team" and also conducts "out of bounds" survival field adventures.

I highly encourage scouts to take this opportunity to do this merit badge and also for parents to come and join the session. Attached below are pre-readings which include the merit badge requirements doc, lecture materials, and more importantly Mr. Armstrong's Bio. Please come prepared.

The one thing that you have to do on your own (requirement 5) is the ICS 100 online course (FEMA website). Introduction to the Incident Command System.

I took the online course. It took me 45mins and made two attempts at the exam before I passed. I realized afterward that one can print the materials so the test taking part is much easier.
