Cadun is one of the many villages in the Wildlands, the Empire's dismissive name for anything past Feltaris on the northern continent. The people of Cadun are a superstitious lot, and do not trust those who wield magic. They consider the blood rituals of the so-called civilized world to be anathema, and will execute anyone suspected of using blood magic. Cadum and the other villages around Ever'andal avoid the elven ruins for fear of whatever magic lies there. All that? Lies spread by the Empire.
In fact, Cadun is the centralmost village in a wide-spanning group of villages that have sprung up in the untamed lands that spread across the former Elven capital of Ever'andal. Cadun is allied with nearly a dozen other villages, and is ruled over by the largely benevolent (to her people) Turis, a former blood priest turned heretic. The blood sacrifices made in Cadun always involve captured outsiders and monstrous, Godsblood-infused creatures. The natives and citizens of the villages have nothing to fear from these events, and many eagerly anticipate them, having joined Turis in believing that the ancient gods (I'noc and Rannoc) demand these blood sacrifices to make up for all the blood "stolen" by the unworthy people's of the wider world. The Empire would prefer this entire belief system be eradicated, but they have been unable to catch Turis, and the wild, unexplored nature of the area has given them pause. With the war efforts against the rebellion, the Empire has temporarily forgotten entirely about Turis.
The Cadun arena is reasonably impressive given the resources in the area. It is circular, and around 100' across. In the center is a 10' wide circular pit that is usually covered. When a battle is fought in the arena, the loser(s) are sacrificed on the altar below.
Once one has won victory in the arena, they are treated as a member of Cadun's society and afforded the privileges of such: a small hut with space to sleep, and unrestricted travel through the forest (though this is still not recommended, due to other dangers). The village is not well-supplied, but raids on the outlying areas of Feltaris sometimes yield resources.
