1. Characteristics of motion in transmission systems

The most common motion transformation systems in technical objects are described below

1. RACK AND PINION SYSTEMS

Possible transformations:

Rotation ---> Translation

or

Translation --->Rotation

Reversebility: YES

These systems contain at least one gear called pinion and one straight bar with teeth called a rack.

The greater the number of teeth of the pinion, the slower its rotation.

2. SCREW GEAR SYSTEMS.

Possible transformations:

Rotation ---> Translation

Reversebility: NO

The screw is the driver and its rotational motion is transformed into the translational motion of the nut.

The nut must be connected to the screw in such a way that the nut can rotate..

The threads of the nuts and screws must match

3. CAM AND FOLLOWER SYSTEM

Possible transformations:

Rotation ---> Translation

Reversebility: NO

These devices transform the rotational motion of the cam into the reciprocating translational motion of a follower, in other words, a back and forth movement like that of a sewing machine needle

4. SLIDER -CRANK MECHANISMS

Slider-crank mechanisms are used in internal combustion engines for example to transform the rotational motion of the pistons into the rotational motion of the crank, causing the wheels to turn

The connecting rod contains two bushings to attach it to the crank and piston.

The cylinder must guide the part moving in the translation

The system requieres frequent lubricationn
