On this page I will show you how to price your recipe.
Initially we will cost each item.
Then total all of the items
Then divide by the number of portions
I will use my favourite Yorkshire pudding recipe as an example. It requires 140g of plain flour, 4 eggs and 200ml of milk.
If we had nothing is the cupboard we would have to pay 40p + £1 + 58p = £1.98 to buy everything initially, but we would have ingredients left over.
It is unlikely that each item will be purchased to the exact quantity. Often it is cheaper to buy in bulk for items that you will use a lot. We need to find the fraction of the package amount.
Quantity used____ x cost of packet = cost of item
Quantity in packet
We need 140g of Plain Flour and a 500g pack of flour costs 40p
140 x 40p = 11p
500
We also need 4 eggs and 6 eggs cost £1.
4 x 100p = 66p
6
Finally 200ml of milk, 58p is the cost for 1 pint (which is 568ml).
200 x 58p = 20p
568
Total Costs
Just add up the individual costs.
11p + 66p + 20p = 97p
Portion Costs
This makes 4 large yorkshire puddings, so divide the total cost by 4.
97p = 24p
