Right so what is the perfect sandwich? Well surely that depends, but what does it depend on?
Analysis
What do you want from a Sandwich?
Each sandwich must be…
Tasty, safe to eat, must last in my school bag until lunchtime
Each sandwich could…
Try new ingredients, be healthy, look different, be cheap to make, be easy to make
Make a list of words that people would expect from your ideas.
Ask lots of different people.
What are your parents wishes? Are they different from your own? How?
Which ones do you think are most important? Take those and put them into the specification.
Specification
The sandwich should be
Less than £2 to make
Be safe to eat
Be part of a balanced lunch
Be tasty
Easy to make
Last until lunchtime in a school bag
Keep these in mind when designing your sandwiches, it is what you will be judging them with.
Ideas
3 Ideas each with a picture, an written description and an explanation about how well it fits with the specification. At the end summarise which one would do best compared to your specification.
Planning the Make
What ever we are making in Design technology we need to ensure we work with the equipment safely. We make a risk assessment firstly
Identify Hazards – Heat, sharps, poisoning
Assess the risk – Consider the likelihood and damage, Extreme, High, Medium or Low
Think of control measures – Wash hands, wear protective equipment, training
Re-Assess the risk.
Some have been done and a copied around the classroom.
Go through this process yourself , think of the possible hazards in making your sandwich, assess the risk, put in control measures and re-assess.
Evaluation
Think in English you learn about PEE when writing a paragraph (make your point, give examples and explain).
Example paragraph on my cooking and organisation.
Evaluation of my cooking
I think I did a good job with my cooking (my point). The bacon was cooked with the fat all crispy but not so burnt (example) that it had turned black. No-one got food poisoning (example) and it was all completed on time and safely. I managed to clear up. I could have improved my organisation as I wasted lots of lettuce, I should have only brought in a little lettuce. The bread was a little dry by the time I got to DT in the afternoon, I will need to think of a better way to store it next time.
