W12: Prototype Refinement

Welcome to TECH 120. This is a 3 credit hour course and meets for 2 hours and 50 minutes weekly. The syllabus describes the course:

Students in this course will engage in critical analysis of real-world problems and global challenges. They will demonstrate the ability to recognize opportunity and to take initiative in developing solutions applying the principles of human-centered design. Students will be able to communicate effectively and to work well on teams. Problems and solutions will be examined from societal, cultural, and ethical perspectives.

Objectives

The objectives of this session are to :

• participate in a virtual studio gallery walk of prototypes
• continue develop virtual/physical prototypes
• infographic review
• develop a storyboard for a 1-2 minute final project video

Virtual Studio Gallery Walk

The instructor will host a virtual studio gallery walk:

Each team will present their prototype and share the following (each team member must participate in the presentation):

• Team name
• Team members
• Name of the design
• Description of the problem
• Description of what the design hopes to accomplish
• Demonstration of the prototype
• Demonstration of the one interactive feature
• Description of what will be added to the final prototype

You have 30 minutes to prepare for your presentations.

W12: Individual – Virtual Studio Gallery Feedback

• Each student will take notes in their journals (one design per page) and include the following (100 points):
  1. Reviewers name (your name) - 5 points
  2. Team name - 5 points
  3. Name of the design - 5 points
  4. Brief description of what the design hopes to accomplish - 10 points
  5. What works well - 10 points
  6. What needs work - 10 points
  7. What needs to be addressed during the final presentation (at least four ideas) - 20 points
  8. How the prototype be can be more influential (at least four ideas) - 20 points
  9. Additional positive feedback that will strengthen both the design and the group's presentation - 15 points
• Each student will use Adobe Scan to capture their feedback page as a PDF and upload individual pages (one PDF, one page, one design) by clicking here (be sure to sign in with your Google account) where each student will be able to review the feedback from others. Use the following naming convention for the file:
  • team_name-reviewer_lastname.pdf
• Students submit a single PDF file that includes all three page of input to the course management system for grading

Groups will now gather, take their feedback from their fellow students, and review recommendations for inclusion of idea on their final prototypes.

Infographic Review

Each group will present the Infographic they created last week and share the following:

• Problem
• Solution
• Tool used to create infographic
• Description of images and why they were chosen

Final Project Video Storyboard

Your final project requires the presentation of a video. Before you create a video, you must first map it out using a storyboard as described in W03. Here are the requirements for the storyboard video (100 points):

• Uses the storyboard template provided below and is submitted as a PDF file (10 points)
• Accurately displays the contents of the 1-2 minute video and includes frame-by-frame time stamps (25 points) - this will require more than a single storyboard page that includes the following:
  • Description of the problem (5 points)
  • Team name and members (5 points)
  • An innovative reveal of the solution (5 points)
  • Demonstrate the operation of the design (25 points)
  • Explains and/or demonstrates the unique features of the design (25 points)
  • The cost of the product (5 points)
  • A call to action (5 points)
