Welcome to TECH 120. This is a 3 credit hour course and meets for 2 hours and 50 minutes weekly. The syllabus describes the course:
Students in this course will engage in critical analysis of real-world problems and global challenges. They will demonstrate the ability to recognize opportunity and to take initiative in developing solutions applying the principles of human-centered design. Students will be able to communicate effectively and to work well on teams. Problems and solutions will be examined from societal, cultural, and ethical perspectives.

The objectives of this section are to learn:
In this section, we focus on the Point of View and Ideation phases of the Design Process (see image below)
In class, each group shares their brainstorming and decision matrix from last week. To prepare, each team will take the first 30 minutes of class to prepare their presentation to the class. Each member of the group will participate in the presentation. Teams will share:
We discuss how interviews and observations can assist in the determination of a problem and influence solution generation. To simulate interviews at this phase of the process, we will brainstorm POV statements for the the solution identified.
After the POVs are created, team members will individually brainstorm potential solutions for homework. Before next week (you have time to do this in class), watch the video below with Jason Tennenhouse. This is a required video for all TECH 120 students statewide. The video is 30 minutes, so plan accordingly. You will be required to use the techniques outlined in the video and in this document to complete this week's assignments.M07 - Jason Tennenhouse Video.mp4
After watching the video, INDIVIDUALLY, brainstorm solutions to the issue identified by the teams:
To select a solution from the five initial ideas, use a decision matrix. Review the slideshow below. The slideshow includes prompts in the form of animations. Read each prompt and don't advance to the next slide until instructed to do so. Next week you will use the W07: Decision Matrix Worksheet Template to review individual designs.
