2018 Snow in Tallahassee

Snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain in Tallahassee

Wednesday, Jan 3, 2018

Tallahassee, FL

In our more than two decades of our lives in Tallahassee (the capital of the State of Florida) it had never snowed. We had seen plenty of snow when we lived in Massachusetts but never in Tallahassee. The closet we have had a snow event while we were living in the southeastern US had happened in Dec 1997 when we were traveling back from the Smokey Mountains, TN toward Atlanta, GA. That night in Atlanta, GA it started to snow and Vivek was so exited to see it.

Dec 1996 Atlanta, GA. It was snowing!

Vivek is seeing snow for the first time!

Bhanu and Vivek excited to see snowing!

Actually, it had snowed all the way south up to Macon, GA on that day in December 1996.

Then yesterday, Tuesday, Jan 02, 2018 the Weather Channel predicted a combination of freezing rain, sleet and snow.

Then today, Wed, Jan 03, 2018 it started freezing rain in the morning around 6 AM. Then around 7 AM it started to become sleet (the frozen part of the freezing rain as it falls through the cold lower atmosphere). We could here the sound the the sleet falling on the car's windshield and bouncing off the ground. We thought the freezing rain and sleet event meant that we will never experience snowing.

Then around 8:15 AM we saw snow flakes falling from the sky. By then the day light had actually come out so we could really enjoy seeing the white flakes of snow.
