The Tenth Annual Experience Asia Festival 2014 was held on Saturday, October 11, 2014, a shoulder Saturday with no FSU home football game weekend, between 10:00 AM and 5:15 PM at Bloxham and Lewis Parks, in downtown Tallahassee. Asian Coalition of Tallahassee (ACT | www.asiantlh.org), the 501 (c) (3) non-profit umbrella organization was the organizer of this annual Festival. This year's event also coincided with the tenth anniversary of the Coalition. The Festival, which attracts over 14,000 people every year, aims to increase the awareness and understanding of Asian culture and heritage among local public through cultural performances, demonstrations, and information booths.
This year we had international visitors from Taiwan's Keelung Chung Jr High School students. Our regular out of town performers were Matsuriza, Taiko Drummers from Orland and Philippines Performing Arts Company from Tampa and Bamboo Chimes from Tampa. In addition we had Asha Sing an Indian pop singer from Miami. The Festival also features over 72 local vendors of food, arts, crafts, jewelry, clothing, business services, human services, and others. The Festival is the largest Asian gathering in the Big Bend area and has established itself as “The Asian Festival of the Big Bend”. This year’s event media sponsors were WTXL-TV 27 and Tallahassee Democrat and it was promoted through WFSU-TV’ s Dimensions program and WFSU-Radio.
