India Association of Tallahassee celebrated the 65th Indian Independence Day and 2012 Utsav on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Lincoln High School Auditorium between 2 and 5 PM. During the occasion the members remembered the victims of Oak Creek Sikh temple tragedy and the chief guest spoke about India's post independence advances and Indian Americans contributions to the US. Soon there were several patriotic songs and musical items.

IATLH also introduced a new event called IATLH Speech Contest. I was asked to speak about the inaugural speech contest and the importance of public speaking. Soon two middle school students and VTS as a high school student spoke topics of their choice. VTS spoke about 'Growing up as Indian America'. Since there was no competition for VTS he won the high school student category out right.

Following the intermission there were more Indian classical music and dance items. The event concluded with IATLH Quiz Contest where eight teams competed in two rounds. There were first and second level prizes awarded at the end of the contest.
