2009 Pongal Vizha (2009 தலகாசி பொங்கல் விழா)

We have celebrated the 2009 Pongal Vizha in Tallahassee, Florida, USA on Saturday, January 17, 2009 between 5:30 and 9:30 PM. Dr Mano and Mrs Priya organized the event. The event started with women and children participating kolam drawing competition. Since the temperatures were below freezing we have moved the kolam drawing to indoors. First black plastic table cloth were affixed to the floor. Then women and children started to draw and paint the kolam with white and colored powders. Kolams were judged by three independent people and prizes awarded to first and second place finishes.

Following the kolam children participated in music chair and role playing game. The Pongal Celebration proper started with Vivek and Somasundaram reciting the Pillyar Prayer. Meanwhile the sweet pongal was prepared by Mrs Karpagam. Then everyone sat down to eat a nice meal including sweet pongal.

தலகாசியில் வாழும் தமிழன்பர்கள் பலர் 2009 பொங்கல் விழாவை சனிக்கிழமை, சனவரி 17, 2009 மாலை 6 மணிக்கு அலுமினி வில்லேஜ்ல் கொண்டாடினோம். திருமதி பிரியா மற்றும் திரு மனோகர் குடும்பம் இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியை நடத்தினார்கள். பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகள் கோலப் போட்டியில் பங்கு பெற்றனர்.

விவேக் ஓளவையாரின் "பாலும் தெளி தேனும்" கடவுள் வாழ்த்து சொன்னான். நான் தமிழ் உனிகோடு பற்றி பேசினேன்.
