What: Client required the next generation operating system (Windows 7) with an updated Internet Explorer browser (IE8) and Microsoft Office productivity suite (Office 2010).
The Challenge: Client was working on different types of computers with a variety of operating systems requiring too much maintenance and dependent on many department functions . The infrastructure needed to be simplified. Replacing the myriad of PCs throughout the organization with an optimized desktop solution would ensure the client was using a consistent and secure computing platform with simplified management.
The Solution: Developed new Windows 7 optimized desktop solution bundled with Internet Explorer 8 . This solution would replaced the existing Windows 2000 SP4 and Windows XP SP3 operating systems. Both bundled with Internet Explorer 6. The new desktop was configured to be managed using Microsoft's Desktop Optimization Pack and Systems Center Configuration Manager. Microsoft's Core Infrastructure Optimization Model was also used to enhance insight and control while reducing complexity and achieving agility. Finally, Windows Server 2008 R2 was developed as a supporting solution to provide additional features and capabilities in the future.
The Result: The solution was consistent with the Personal Computing Services requirements for ensuring deployment and management of desktop and laptop hardware and software. It followed the County’s guiding principle to ‘preserve and enhance the environment of San Diego County'. And, met he County’s mission to support business productivity and ensure best value through the effective use of people, process and technology.
