Cavers: Petie, Al

Time: Three and a bit hours.

A return to PBU to complete the survey begun at the end of November. Not much to report really. Twas a slow and fiddly survey in general, not helped by the grot and messing around on pitches etc. We got down as far as the final pitch, and looked down the hole that led down into the terminal dig. Neither of us decided to tempt fate and actually climb down the last section. Looked quare dodgy hai.

The way back up the pitch was interesting. I had several unsuccessful attempts at getting up through the window before realising that I was putting myself at risk of getting stuck. I abseiled back down, and let Al out, so at least someone would be at the right side of the window should I wedge myself. On the second set of attempts I got through with some pep talk from Al and breathlessly flopped out the window upside down in a kind of modified Rebirth-Crawl-exit manouvre. Classy as fuck I was.

Crunching the numbers the next weekend gave the following stats - 54m of passage surveyed to a depth of 34m. That does include a leg from the edge of the doline to the entrance, so the original estimated depth of 30m is pretty much bang on.
