Summer 2012
Friday, July 27 at Gene's
7 - 7:25 Sampler: Humanity Has Declined
7:25 - 8:15 Nyarko-san 1-2
8:15 - 9:05 C - Control - The Money and Soul of Possibility 1-2
9:05 - 9:15 intermission
9:15 - 9:40 Kill Me Baby 1
9:40 -11:10 Lupin III: Eternal Mermaid
Attendance: 6
Gene, Alan, Cat Stevens, Adam, Brian, Steve Racer
Saturday, July 28 at Guy's
7 - 8:15 Fate/Zero 1-2
8:15 - 9:30 Mysterious Girlfriend X 1-3
9:30 - 9:40 intermission
9:40 - 10:30 Another 1-2
10:30 - 11:20 Accel World 1-2
Attendance: 6
Guy, Cat Stevens, Brian, Alan, Victor, Adam
Notes: Crunchyroll app on Roku seems to be working correctly again (searching for "Another" is still painful, of course). So far Nyarko is less of a threat to SAN than Mysterious Girlfriend X. Historical note: this weekend Metro Rail hours are extended so that last trains of the night begin their runs around 2 AM; this should allow more flexibility on Friday night schedules.
Friday, August 3 at Gene's
7 - 8:15 Nyarko-san 3-5
8:15 - 9:05 C - Control - The Money and Soul of Possibility 3-4
9:05 - 9:15 intermission
9:15 - 9:40 Kill Me Baby 2
9:40 -11:10 Golgo 13: The Professional
Attendance: 8
Gene, David, Brian, Cat Stevens, Alan, Victor, Steve Racer, Adam
Saturday, August 4 at Guy's
7 - 8:15 Fate/Zero 3-5
8:15 - 9:05 Mysterious Girlfriend X 4-5
9:05 - 9:15 intermission
9:15 - 10:30 Another 3-5
10:30 - 11:20 Accel World 3-4
Attendance: 7
Guy, Brian, Peter, David, Adam, Victor, Alan
Notes: Started late on Friday. Also on Friday, Funimation's site and app weren't working, so we skipped C entirely and went directly to the assassin double-feature. Golgo was received pretty well, QUALITY helicopters and all. Saturday night the Crunchyroll app on Roku failed on Mysterious Girlfriend X, so we tried the PS3 app. It stuttered some and cut off part of the picture on the sides (not 720P?), but basically worked. Premium membership only for most videos, appears not to be a search function (though perhaps that's just because it's still in beta?). Roku app was working again in time for Another, so we switched back to that.
Friday, August 10 at Gene's
7 - 7:50 Nyarko-san 6-7
7:50 - 9:05 C - Control - The Money and Soul of Possibility 3-5 3-4
9:05 - 9:15 intermission
9:15 - 10:05 Kill Me Baby 3-4
10:05 - 10:55 Towa no Quon 1
Attendance: 6
Gene, Alan, Brian, Steve Racer, Adam, David
Saturday, August 11 at Arthur's
7 - 7:50 Fate/Zero 6-7
7:50 - 9:05 Mysterious Girlfriend X 6-8
9:05 - 9:15 intermission
9:15 - 10:05 Another 6-7
10:05 - 11:20 Accel World 5-7
Attendance: 5
Arthur, Brian, Alan, Victor, Adam
Notes: Friday night we were scheduled to watch episode 5 of C as well, but Funimation's app (and site) flaked out on us, so we had to modify the schedule (the heat of the day didn't help with us running on time, and we were all pretty worn out even by the end of things). We also got such a late start on Saturday that we skipped Another entirely, so we're pushing those episodes back to other weeks; Saturday night we needed to use laptop for Accel World (as usual), and the combined heat of that, the projector, and Arthur's PS3 were slowly overwhelming the air conditioning...
Friday, August 17 at Gene's
7 - 7:25 Sampler: Natsuyuki Rendezvous
7:25 - 8:15 Nyarko - SAN 8-9
8:15 - 9:05 C - Control 5-6
9:05 - 9:15 intermission
9:15 - 9:40 Kill Me Baby 5
9:40 - 11:15 Feature: Gintama the Motion Picture
Attendance: 8
Gene, Brian, Cat Stevens, David, Victor, Alan, Adam, Steve Racer
Saturday, August 18 at Guy's

9:15 - 10:55 Another 6-9
10:55 - 11:45 Accel World 8-9
Attendance: 5
Guy, David, Alan, Brian, Adam
Notes: The Gintama movie is pretty good - a much better way to get people into the series than the first few television episodes.
Friday, August 24 at Gene's
7 - 7:25 Sampler: Binbogami ga!
7:25 - 8:15 Nyarko - SAN 10-11
8:15 - 9:30 C - Control 7-9
9:30 - 9:40 intermission
9:40 - 10:05 Kill Me Baby 6
10:05 - 11:05 Feature: The Heroic Legend of Arslan, part 1
Attendance: 6
Gene, Alan, Cat Stevens, David, Adam, Brian
Saturday, August 25 at Guy's
7 - 8:15 Fate/Zero 11-13
8:15 - 9:30 Mysterious Girlfriend X 11-13
9:30 - 9:40 intermission
9:40 - 10:55 Another 10-12
10:55 - 11:45 Accel World 10-11
Attendance: 7
Guy, Cat Stevens, Brian, David, Adam, Alan, Victor
Notes: Binbogami was widely enjoyed. On the other hand, consensus on C is that it doesn't seem to make any sense...
The Arslan discs Alan brought were dub-only, so we postponed that and sampled other shows: Joshiraku (good), and La Storia della Arcana Famiglia (bad - boring).
Guy declared Mysterious Girlfriend X the best show we're watching this season. It's certainly the most unique...
Friday, August 31 at Gene's
7 - 7:25 Sampler: Kokoro Connect (CR)
7:25 - 7:50 Nyarko - SAN 12
7:50 - 8:40 C - Control 10-11

8:50 - 9:40 Kill Me Baby 7-8
9:40 - 10:55 Feature: more Samplers!
* Kingdom (Funi/fs)
* Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero (Funi/fs)
* Total Eclipse, aka Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse (CR)
Attendance: 6
Gene, Adam, Alan, David, Cat Stevens, Victor
Saturday, September 1 - no showings!
Notes: We started the actual schedule late so that Gene could show us some weird live-action Japanese show. During intermission, we watched Gangnam Style.
Aesthetica's subs (on fs) were in Spanish, so instead we sampled Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate. Of these samplers, the only one that seemed to make a positive impression was Kingdom (in spite of its bad CG).
Friday, September 7 at Gene's

9:05 - 9:15 intermission
9:15 - 10:05 Sankarea 1-2 (Funi/??)
10:05 - 11:20 Accel World 12-14 (Hulu/fs)
Attendance: 8
Guy, Victor, David, Arthur and Claire, Brian, Alan, Adam
Notes: Friday night we watched Hells. For the first hour or so it's amazing, for the next 30 minutes it starts to drag, and for the last 30 minutes we wish it had actually ended at the 2nd or 3rd apparent ending. Still looked incredible, but needed some editing or something. Saturday was our club trip to the Gallery Nucleus exhibit for Adventure Time and Junko Mizuno. The gallery is small - you can easily see everything in an hour or less, than hit the gift shop (upside: nearby street parking is readily available) so it isn't much of a club trip by itself. I took some pictures, and the gallery had a rule posted saying you could only do that if you shared them on the internet, so here they are.
Friday, September 14 at Gene's

10:30 - 11:20 Accel World 15-16 (Hulu/fs)
Attendance: 7
Guy, Cat Stevens, Alan, David, Brian, Jasen, Adam
Notes: Friday we couldn't sample So I Can't Play H - Crunchyroll listed it as having no episodes available! It had episodes available and playable earlier that day...we ended up switching to Tari Tari. We'd started late anyway, so we didn't want to waste too much time trying to get it to work. We also watched a video suggested by Steve Racer during intermission: Nichijou video for The Safety Dance. Saturday night we tried out the Funimation channel on Roku - it works, but the HD quality is questionable and the login process (using the remote control) is painful. Hopefully it won't force us to log back in too often.

10:05 - 11:20 Accel World 17-19 (Hulu/fs)
Attendance: 5
Arthur, Alan, Jenia, Victor, Adam
Notes: Friday night the Funimation site loaded fine, but the Haganai videos thereon could no be induced to play. We got them to play off Hulu (which still totally sucks). At least So, I Can't Play H worked correctly from CR this time around. Saturday night we had trouble streaming from both Crunchyroll and Funimation over Arthur's wireless network; gave up and went to files. Used iPad's built-in LTE networking after the break to stream Sankarea from Funimation and that worked just fine - maybe Arthur's guest network has issues with streaming? Speedtest showed download of 16-17 Mbps, ping of 17-18 ms, vs. LTE download of 34 Mbps, ping of 43 ms.

Attendance: 6

Notes: Friday night the Funimation app totally failed to start playing episodes. Everybody thought Patema Inverted was interesting and we kind of wished there was more; in contrast we abandoned Corpse Party in the first minute.
