Following is a list of things that are expected of students in order to be successful in this course. Parents, please check to see that your child is completing all assigned work for each class period.
· Students must be on time for class. We have a lot to cover in a little time!
· Do your best work! At this level, care and appearance of work and sincere effort to do one’s best are stressed, as development of these things is crucial for future academic success.
· All assignments must be completed! No zeroes allowed!
· Writing assignments will be given a due date, and due dates will not be extended except for extenuating circumstances involving excused absences.
· We will often have multiple due dates within a single writing assignment, as we will have rough drafts, edited copies, and final drafts for many.
· Various tests and quizzes will be given throughout the course on the material taught in class.
· Complete all homework assignments! We will not have a large amount of homework, but we will have homework for most class periods to reinforce our lessons and to get the student accustomed to the skill of completing assignments in a reliable and timely fashion.
· A daily “class participation” assessment will be made. Be prepared to contribute to class discussion and to participate in classwork in order to do well.
Grades will be assigned, in order to give your elementary student an understanding of the grading process and to motivate complete of work in a responsible and timely manner. Your child’s grade will consist of a loose “average” of grades on homework assignments, classwork assignments, class participation, written tests, and compositions.
Numerical averages will not be assigned, but your child will receive letter grades (including pluses and minuses) by which you and he can gauge his progress.
