After the defeat of Suffolk Christian Academy, my team had the opportunity to win the local soccer championship. My team had home field advantage during our playoffs; this time, however, defending champions Gateway Christian Academy was striving for another win against my team, Beach Breakers.
It was a chilly time in the Fall. The Beach Breakers combined their Varsity team with their Junior Varsity team (J.V.) for the 2013 season. My team were extremely fast with their passing rate and dribbling techniques. However, Gateway has came back in a game to win from only behind a few goals.
The game took place in our home field at the Jewish Community Center in Virginia Beach. The goals stood up ,and the wind kicked in. Since I was a J.V. member, I sat out most of the game. The crowd cheered as the activity went on.
The players called for the ball and quickly made some passes. One mistake could be their last. Shoot! Shoot! The ball glided into the goal; one more goal for my team! Injuries, however, took its toll. It was sad to see a player down, but the game must continue; it must go on.
The score was 4 to 0 at halftime. Yes, my team scored the four goals. Beach Breakers dominated the first half. It was time for a water break and some advice from the coach.
"Great work," the coach exclaimed. "But we could do better than that. Four goals is not a lot. Continue to pursue and do your job!"
When the second half rolled around, the plays began to intensify. Gateway managed to score 2 goals in the half, but my soccer buddies scored 2 more goals to add to our 4. The standings was 6 to 2 with my team still in the lead. In the last few minutes of the game, the J.V. team replaced all the Varsity players who were playing. When I was immediately off the bench, a burst of energy tingled within my veins. Even though Gateway made two more goals, it wasn't enough to win the game. That's right, Beach Breakers are the 2013 Champions. Hooray!
Each team congratulated the other, and the trophy for second place belonged to Gateway Christian Academy. And the first place trophy was awarded to Beach Breakers.
