Creative Writing
Class Description:
This course is designed to enhance the student's writing ability in a variety of contexts. Students will improve their writing skills in the areas of descriptive writing, creative writing (including stories and poems), personal writing (including journal writing), and academic writing (including instruction in basic essay form). The reading of high quality literature is a significant contributor to enhanced writing skill in the student; therefore, students will be required to read a certain amount of quality literature each month and to keep a reading log. Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to make a smooth transition into the high school level writing courses. Be prepared for your student to surprise you (and himself) with what he can write and how much he’ll love doing it! Access to a computer with Internet and word processing capabilities is required. This course is designed for grades 6-8, though older students are welcome.
