As most people, I have a fascination with reusing old media and remixing different cultures. I consider sharing any content of our diverse cultures to be extremely important for progressing in how we understand each other and what values are important for each of us. Dub reggae is one of the genres where remixing and reusing existing musical structures appears the most.
DJ Spooky is an American DJ but also new media theoretician. His music and performances include heavy use of electronic music technology, pre-existing musical content and other kinds of sonic art and media. For me, his music is as diverse as Western music can be. Nevertheless, he manages to not only reuse Western music content and hybridize it, but to also rebuild the methods on how they can be combined or remixed. This results in amazing patterns of sound and a great sonic atmosphere.
He is also a leading philosopher in electronic and new music ideas. Currently he is a professor of mediated art in the European Graduate School in Switzerland.
