Analog Photography
Sebastião Salgado
There are numerous discussions over the plasticity of Salgado's pictures. Now known as one of the best photojournalists in Brazil, Sebastião Salgado was once an economist. In 1971, the photographer made his first visit to Africa, when he decides to embrace his new career. The "Africa" compilation is one of his most famous works and it is seen as an important denunciation of misery and poverty in a way that was hardly seen before in Brazil's cultural scene. In my opinion Sebastião Salgado does not get behind huge names of photography such as Ansel Adams and Pierre Verger in his attempt to capture unique moments in a very special paradigm: a political and social print of the third world nations.
