OLD
Thaumatropes offered the viewers the thrill of seeing a moving image.
Greek
thauma + tropos; "Turning Wonder"
This simple piece of magic was a popular toy in the Victorian times invented by John Ayrton Paris a Brithish physician. He used the thaumatrope to demonstrate persistence of vision.
It represent some of the earliest attempts to visually capture the dynamics of motion.

SOOO 90'ies, but still COOL
.GIF
Glitter Graphics Frames
The Thaumatrope made a kind of comeback in the digital world in the middle of the 90'es. Moving images, or .gif images were everywhere! From dancing baby's to crawling under construction bars and so on. The bright world wide web of that time was claimed by a large amount of amateurs including you and me.
I can't help it, but I really love .gif images. It's an acceptable way of mixing images to one animation in every imaginary context. So therefore I created the Thaumatrope Show, a cabinet with analogue .gif animations. It consists of a piece of cardboard with different images at each side. When the strings attached to the cardboard are rapidly rotated, the images fuse to create one image in the eye of the beholder. A modest approach to capture the beauty of Art & Pulp in a little device of magic.
