Annual Events

Each year NC Taiwanese Cultural Arts (NCTWCA) plan activities around the main festivals in our culture, the Asian Pacific Islander American  Heritage month Taiwanese American week, the splendid October, and the year end seasons of greeting for all American.  Calendar-wise, normally we would have activities planned for Spring, Autumn, and Winter.  In the summer time it is often  up to the special occasions we might encounter that year.

Spring

After the blooming of the magnolia and tulip flowering tree in NC  comes May.  It is the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.  We celebrate the Taiwanese American Heritage Week around the Mother's day time frame each year.  An internationally renowned preforming arts group from Taiwan would visit the Research Triangle Park area to help us celebrating the week.  They have performed a variety of dance and concert which integrated acrobatic elements of both traditional and folk arts and are always well-received by the local audiences.

2020 寳島躍青春 Youth Vitality of Formosan Folk Arts

This would have been the performance for the year 2020.  A Troupe of 36 from Chung Cheng High School of Taiwan Keelung had been practicing and rehearsing long and hard to show case their talents in rhythm and folk gymnastic arts by visiting us here.   We (NCTWCA) had prepared to have the performance on 5/19/2020 at the Cary Arts Center and also arranged for their visits to nearby schools. Unfortunately we had to cancel this performance because of COVID-19.

We joined force with four other local community organizations, Taiwanese Association of America – NC Chapter (TAA-NC), NC Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce (NCTACC), NC Hakka Association (NCHA), Triangle Area Chinese American Society (TACAS), and raised a significant amount of  monetary donation to the COVID-19 relief fund of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina,  in honor of the Taiwanese American Heritage week.  We have been living in US long. Some have a history of several generations back. We cherish America the land of opportunity and hope for a speedy recovery of the country from the pandemic.

Summer

Summer is the time when local people and families would be out of town traveling while groups from out of town may come to visit. Our activities are based on the visiting groups need for NCTWCA to assist or support them in the Triangle Areas as a local host.  Below is a sample of some of these activities.

Autumn

People in Taiwan and the overseas communities celebrate the Moon Festival and National Holidays in September and October with good food, live entertainments, parades, tournaments, and fireworks.  NCTWCA will typically bring the following events to the Triangle Areas as part of the celebration:

三角地區學生社區感恩交流餐會 - 2013
2019 Culinary Arts Tour from Taiwan
八月美食巡迴講座 - 2019
2019 Taiwanese Cultural Goodwill Mission Tour
九月臺灣文化友好訪演 - 2019

Winter

The most popular national holiday in Taiwan during the winter time is Spring Festival 春節, "Old-Calendar Year, 舊曆年" - the way many of us used to call it since childhood, "Chinese New Year, 中國年" - many American would call it that way, or "Lunar New Year, 農曆年" - as many Asian American would call it.  It normally falls within January and February.  Many Asian American communities  celebrate with good food, red envelops, dragoon and lion dances, carnivals, and "virtual" firecrackers.  An even more popular time is the year end Christmas and New Year holiday season.  We celebrate the American culture the same way as our fellow Americans.  NCTWCA would participate in many community sponsored celebration activities while also having its own year end appreciate event.  Below is a sample of these activities:

TACAS CNYF 2019 Year of Boar
