This ten-year-old Dance Troupe consists of those NDHU students who are interested in indigenous music and dance cultures. To be more specific, the Dance Troupe consists of indigenous youths from different tribal units who spend their after-school hours sharing, learning, and knowing more about the beauty of indigenous music and dance cultures here in Taiwan. The first objective of the Dance Troupe is to display the beauty of Taiwan’s indigenous cultures by presenting the music and dances of different tribal units and conducting related field studies; the second, reviving those indigenous cultures that are in imminent danger and firing up the enthusiasm for learning the traditional tribal cultures.

國立東華大學原住民民族學院舞團成立至今已邁入第十年,由校內對原住民族樂舞文化有興趣的學生共同組成。來自臺灣各部落的原住民青年利用課餘時間彼此分享、學習,以認識原住民族的樂舞文化之美。舞團歷年來製作了許多族群的樂舞,透過與不同族群樂舞的接觸與呈現, 以及田野調查的實作來展現臺灣原住民族的文化內涵,保存原住民傳統樂舞,進而重振原住民族瀕危的文化,且更激發彼此對於學習傳統文化的熱忱。
舞團透過樂舞的學習來傳承原住民族優美的文化,並實際進入部落採集與整理資料,以保留原住民族樂舞的真實樣貌。透過學校與部落的結合及現代手法的詮釋,扮演原住民文化保存及傳承的角色,並藉由展演讓大眾更瞭解臺灣原住民族風采,發展臺灣原住民的文化價值,重新尋回臺灣原住民文化的原始脈絡,使在地文化的力量生根,讓傳統樂舞文化能永續經營。
