If you put that together with the primary application programming language,
VS is theoretically language agnostic but the app development for Win7 phones would be primarily in C++. The rest of the phone environments not mentioned include other Linux based phones like Maemo and Meego both from Nokia. The application development language here will again be primarily C++. Having said that, Symbian^3 will support Java applications.
Last comment, I am no Apple fanboy but one has to admire Steve Job's sheer chutzpah. iOS is a closed system, with a controlled app market where Apple makes a large chunk of the price of the apps, in a language that is Apple proprietary! All three of these fly in the face of "conventional wisdom". Yet in a prize fight with these 3 in one corner and the Apple brand in the other, the Apple brand looks like it is winning.
