Marv requires an updated version of Google Play Services software so please ensure that you have the latest version. Marv will not start up without an updated version of Google Play Services software. Also ensure that GPS is turned on.
The main screen of Marv is the Google Map. By default, the Map will Zoom to a view on Singapore. To zoom to where you are, press the GPS button on the Map itself and the Map should zoom to your current position which is marked with a blue dot (or arrow) marker. On the Map there are also + and - buttons which will zoom in and zoom out the Map View.
Navigation through the software is via the Options Menu accessed through the Menu Button of the Android Phone. The following Options are available on the Options Menu.
1. AR Viewer
2. POI Files
3. Open
4. Clear
5. Content
6. Settings
7. About
The AR Viewer is set only in LandScape mode due to the nature of the display. If no POI's (Points Of Interest) are loaded, there will be no display on the AR Viewer. There are two widgets on the AR Viewer screen. The first is the Radar on the Top Right corner of the display. The Radar will display POI's as green flecks. The direction in which the Android Phone is facing is displayed at the top of the radar and at the bottom of the Radar is displayed the range for which POI's are displayed. The second widget is a slide bar that controls the range of the display. Changing this slide directly affects the display of the Radar. The maximum range is 100im. If POI's are loaded, AR Markers will be displayed in the AR Viewer. The name of the POI and its distance are displayed below the AR Marker.
POI Files will bring you to a list of POI Files. On start up, this screen will be blank as no POI Files are loaded. Open the Options Menu of the POI Files screen. Use the Load option to load a default POI List File by pressing Okay on the dialog. A list of items will open up in the POI List screen. Clicking on one of these list items will open the Android Phone's default browser to an information screen of that POI List File. Long clicking on the item will load that POI List File itself. After loading a POI List File, the display will return to the main Google Map screen. This time, in addition, POI markers (red balloons) will be displayed on the map. Zoom to the desired level and touch a POI marker on the map. A Info Window of that POI will be displayed. If this Info Window is further clicked, an Info Dialog of that POI will be displayed. The Info Dialog of the POI has a Website button. If there is a website recorded with this POI, the website button will be enabled and clicking on the button will open a screen to that website. The intention of this website is to provide detailed information of the POI.
Open opens a dialog that will allow input of a URL for a POI File to be loaded. The POI File contains a list of POI's. The POI List File contains a list of POI Files available. This option allows directly loading of POI's to the map bypassing the POI List File. Note that currently, only one POI File can be opened at a time.
The Clear Option clears the Google Map (and internal database) of POI's loaded.
The Settings screen enables certain options used in the program. Currently, the following settings are available.
1. Proximity Alerts - enable/disable
2. Sound Notification - enable/disable
Proximity Alerts are set up in the POI File. If set up and enabled, an Alert will be generated when the user enters within a certain radius of the POI. An Alert may also be generated when the user exits the radius of that POI. Sound Notification is available on entry to the area demarcated by a radius around the POI. The generated opens the default browser or player depending on what is available at the URL destination.
