Another most excellent post about the potential of Internet Radio.
Of special interest to me is this part.
"This market is not without its challenges though, with connectivity and driver distraction being the main problems. On the one hand, vehicle manufacturers are looking to offer connectivity and services using consumers' voice and data connection. On the other hand, telecom operators are objecting to this model and want vehicle manufacturers to put an additional security identity module (SIM) card with a dedicated voice and data plan to power services inside the car.
"Furthermore, the safety regulatory committees in Europe and North America are concerned about safety and driver distraction aspects associated with smartphones in cars," explains Chandrasekar."
Ultimately, the in-car radio and the mobile phone should work simultaneously. Anything less than this is an inconvenience to somebody else in the car which translates into a competitive advantage for anybody who can offer a solution. The most interesting, "driver distraction". The purpose of the vRdo project is to make interaction as little as possible minimizing driver distraction, maximizing familiarity.
