mVrdo is the Maemo (Fremantle) version of Vrdo. The simple reason why I chose Maemo is because Maemo seems to be the only available mobile platform even remotely related to Ubuntu on which the original vRdo was developed. However, working on the Maemo mobile version opened new horizons and aspirations for the project. What started out as a internet TV/Radio player with minimumal requirements for interaction has now grown into the Personal Internet Radio Player.
mVrdo allows the user to go to any internet radio station URI and then store it within the player. mVrdo also works directly with the system clipboard so that the URI can be harvested off the webpage and then appear directly in the Open Location entry box. If the user decides that she wants to add it to the list of favourites, then it is as simple as hitting the Add Favourites button in the system menu. mVrdo also includes options to send and receive information on single stations throuhg email or bluetooth. So it will be a snap to share that particular website with friends who have the same taste in music. I have not yet fully tested the e-mail and bluetooth versions but have copied the functions wholesale from the sampler maemopad program.
In the release of mVrdo, I have left the gstreamer debug messages (suitably formated) on. I find this helpful particularly in seeing whether the connection with the stations is happening. To access these messages, after installation, start mvrdo from the X-terminal command line and all messages will appear on the X-terminal.
