And Haman recounted to them the glory of his wealth, and his large number of sons, and every instance where the King had promoted him and advanced him above the officials and royal servants.

Getting invited to Esther’s first party made Haman’s head swell (even more than it already was). After encountering Mordechai on his way home, he summoned his friends and his wife, and he recounts his lifetime achievements. However, the punishments that were soon coming to him affected all of the successes that he detailed.
