“Vayomru na’arei hamelech”
And the king’s pages said
(2:2)
At the suggestion of the “Na’arei hamelech” (Achashveirosh’s group of young advisors), Achashveirosh had a pageant to find a new queen. Having caused the circumstance that brought Esther into the palace, they accrued great merit.
The Ba’al Medrash Shmuel points out that later, this same group told Achashveirosh that Mordechai had not been rewarded yet for having saved the king’s life. They now were fit to be rewarded again.
One could say that this was a classic case of “Mitzvah goreres mitzvah” (one mitzvah begets another mitzvah)!
