אִישׁ יְהוּדִי
Ish Yehudi
(2:5)
Achieving Achdus, especially among a large group of people, is something that is not easily accomplished. To do so with a small group of people is an achievement. But to do so across all of Klal Yisroel is monumental. However, the presence of a Tzadik who embodies Achdus can make attainment of such a goal significantly easier.
The Megillah describes Mordechai as “אִישׁ יְהוּדִי ,” Ish Yehudi. (2:5) This can be interpreted as “איש יחידי,” Ish Yechidi, a person who brings disparate groups together. Being aware of Mordechai’s capacity to promote Achdus, Esther urges Mordechai to “לֵךְ כְּנוֹס אֶת כָּל הַיְּהוּדִים הַנִּמְצְאִים בְּשׁוּשָׁן” Leich, k’nos es kol hayehudim hanimtze’im b’shushan, (4:16) go, gather all of the Jews who are in Shushan. Being one of the leaders of the community, he clearly would be able to gather all of the Jews into one geographic location. But she also recognized that he had the special capacity to unify them so that the power of their Tefilos and fasting would be that much more potent.
