Achashveirosh’s party, especially the final seven days, was not just about celebrating himself (although I’m sure he made little effort to downplay that aspect). It was also part of his evil plan to lead the Jews towards sin.
In fact, he was so enthusiastic about bringing the downfall of the Jews, that Achashveirosh was personally involved in the preparations of the party so as to ensure that every last detail was planned properly. As they say, “If you want it done, do it yourself.” And for Achashveirosh, there was nothing more important than making sure that the Jews were tripped up at his party. So “Asah hamelech,” he himself planned the party personally so as to make sure that it went as well as possible.
