יָבוֹא הַמֶּלֶךְ וְהָמָן הַיּוֹם
Yuvo hamelech v’Haman hayom
(5:4)
Inviting Achashveirosh and Haman to her chambers for a drinking party was part of Esther’s grand plan to save the Jews. The first steps towards redemption were taken at a party that included an excess of alcohol (“כְּטוֹב לֵב הַמֶּלֶךְ בַּיָּיִן” 1:10). Now Esther would host her own such party (“בְּמִשְׁתֵּה הַיַּיִן” 5:6) and would stir up some jealousy and suspicion on the part of Achashveirosh.
Lest anyone think that such a plan wasn’t a good idea, Rokeach points out that approval was given by none less than the Almighty. In looking at Esther’s royal invitation of “יָבוֹא הַמֶּלֶךְ וְהָמָן הַיּוֹם,” we see the stamp of Hashem’s ineffable name by way of the Roshei Teivos.
