"Lihavee es Vashti hamalka”
To bring Vashti the queen
(1:11)
When Achashveirosh decided that he wanted Vashti at the men’s banquet, he didn’t summon her as is befitting a queen. Rather, in his drunken stupor he simply ordered that she be brought to him regardless of her wishes and regardless of what she might have been preoccupied with. There were even instructions to physically take her if she resisted.
This was a tremendous show of audacity seeing as how she was the one with the royal lineage, while was the one who simply married into the position of king. This explains the wording in our Pasuk, “to bring” (Lihavee) instead of something more appropriate like “to summon.”
