Statements of Faith

These are creeds or statements of faith which can be used in place of the more traditional Apostle's Creed or Nicene Creed.

Creed 17:

God created us; in God’s image we are created. We believe in a Creator who made us, loves us, and is with us today and always.

God saved us; by God’s grace we are saved. We believe in Christ Jesus who, being one with the Creator, joined us on earth for a brief time as a man, walked with us, healed us, and taught us, reminding us of who we are. With his life, death and resurrection Christ gathers all of us back into a loving relationship with God.

God is creating us anew; in God’s love we thrive and grow. We believe in the Spirit who, being one with Christ and the Creator, calls us, comforts us, and guides us every day and every moment of our lives.

Creed 16:

By the grace granted to me by God, I believe.

I believe in God, the Creator, who made me and all creation, who calls me into relationship and makes me a child of freedom.

I believe in God, Christ Jesus, who has saved me and all creation, who by his death and resurrection has rescued me from the punishment of sin and restores me to the freedom given me at the beginning of creation.

I believe in God, the Holy Spirit, who breathes life into me and all creation, who fills me with grace, leads me into wisdom, and gives me strength for the work of my life.

I believe in one God, who is Creator, Savior and Spirit, the center of my life now and for all eternity.

Creed 15:

P: Who is this man,

This Jesus Christ?

A man of history?

A Prophet of light?

Who is this Jesus Christ?

C: Christ is our Savior true;

God who walks beside us.

Christ is our loving friend;

God who lives among us.

Christ is our guardian strong;

God whose love reclaims us.

Creed 14:

C: For we believe

That God is our Creator, the Maker of all there is, known and unknown, seen and unseen, who created and is still creating this earth, this place we call home;

That Jesus of Nazareth is our Savior, the Redeemer of all there is, known and unknown, seen and unseen, who was crucified, died and rose, who was and is with us on this earth, this place we call home;

That God the Holy Spirit is our Breath, the Source of all there is, known and unknown, seen and unseen, who watched and watches, counseled and counsels, who called and calls us from the beginning of all things, who animated and animates us on this earth, this place we call home.

We believe that this One God in Three Persons was and is and always will be. Amen.

Creed 13:

I believe in God who is my father and mother, master of dreams and reality, giver of life and love, source of diversity, change, and creation. Who travels with me; walking by my side no matter where I go or who I am or who I become.

I believe in Jesus who is my friend and savior. Who came to earth as a baby, joining me and all humankind in a journey through life and death, leading us by the hand, carrying us when we fail, always and ever with us until we all reach a new creation.

I believe in the Holy Spirit who is the inspiration and guide on my way. Who comes for me no matter where I am or how long it takes. Who reaches out and gathers me in no matter what I do. Who fills my heart and soul and mind with God’s presence, assuring me that I am loved and never alone.

Creed 12:

I believe! Hallelujah!

God made me.

God always loves me.

The Breathe of God fills me.

The Breathe of God helps me.

I believe!

Jesus knows me.

Jesus loves me.

He came for me.

He died for me.

He walks with me.

He talks with me.

I believe!

God frees me! Hallelujah!

Creed 11:

In a time before all knowing, God is, and God's breathe fills the emptiness, creating: a universe, a world, an ecology, a biology and us, humankind. All humankind, no exceptions, no imperfections; and all of us beloved just as we are.

In a time before all knowing, Christ Jesus watches the creating, and steps out into creation: becoming, living, dying, and rising, all for us. All humankind, no exceptions, no reservations; all of us just as we are, God's beloved.

In a time before all knowing the Spirit is, and moves through every part of creation: consoling, interceding, leading, and refreshing all the world, including us. All humankind, no exceptions, no differentiations; all of us just as we are, God's beloved.

Creed 10:

I believe that God made me and is shaping me still, leading me on a journey through life, through death, and into a new creation.

I believe that Christ Jesus watched creation and me being made, that he stepped into our world to travel our path, that he still journeys with me and all people, walking with me through life, through death, and into a new creation.

I believe that the Holy Spirit moves through creation, gathering me and all humanity into relationship and community, leading me through life, through death and into a new creation.

Creed 9:

I believe in God the Creator, who made me and all things, who set me on my path in this world.

I believe in God the Savior, who is one with the Creator, who rescued me and all creation from the depredations of our violations against God and creation. This man, Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, walked a path through this world, taking on human form having been born of a woman through the power of the Holy Spirit. He lived and worked in this world among people just like me. He walked God's path to death on a cross, and rose from the dead to open our pathway to eternal life.

I believe in God the Holy Spirit, my counselor and guide, who is one with the Creator and the Christ, who through the body and blood of Jesus brings me into communion with all people, past, present and future; who calls me to walk a sacred way of life through this world, caring for creation and the people I meet on the way, loving them, helping them, welcoming them without prejudice, being God's hands and feet in the world.

Creed 7:

We believe in God the Creator, who created and is creating everything: the universe, the world, the plants and animals, and us; each of us, unique, individual and beloved of God.

We believe in God the Christ, who saved and is saving everything: the universe, the world, the plants and animals, and us: each of us; unique, individual and beloved of the Christ.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who guided and is guiding everything: the universe, the world, the plants and animals, and us; each of us, unique, individual and beloved of the Spirit.

We believe that this one God in three persons, is present among us, working directly in our lives and the lives of all who are born into this world, striving to bring us back into harmony with all creation and with God: forgiving, healing, touching everyone, never rejecting any who willingly receive this freely offered gift of love and grace and eternal life.

Creed 6:

Into the silence of the void the Creator spoke, and the world came into being. The Word of God in the vastness brought light from darkness, matter from nothing, flesh from dust, life from lifelessness.

In the quiet of a small town in Palestine the Word of God came to us. Even though of one being with the Creator, Jesus our Christ, taking on human form, was born, lived, and walked among us, speaking the words of life. He was crucified, died, and was buried. He rose from the dead and speaks to us today. He is the one who saves us from ourselves.

In the stillness of our souls the Spirit of God, who is one with the Creator and the Christ, whispers the Word, and calls us back to the Creator, back to the Christ, back to the wholeness of everlasting life in the unity of the Creator, Christ and Spirit.

Creed 5:

Nicene Creed (Inclusive language)

We believe in one God the Creator Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Creator before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Creator by whom all things were made; who for us, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Creator. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead, whose kingdom shall have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Creator and the Son, who with the Creator and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Creed 4:

I believe in God, Creator of the universe, who is mother and father of us all.

I believe in God, Christ Jesus, who, leaving his divinity, became a human, a man who walked this earth. He was born of a woman, grew up, and became a teacher and healer, the Light of the World. He was executed by Pontius Pilate. He conquered death, rising to true life, whole and real. He returned to his Father and will come again to judge this world.

I believe in God, the Holy Spirit, our comforter and guide, who with the Creator and the Christ is God, now and before and after all time.

Creed 3:

I believe in God, our Creator, who at the beginning of time made us to be sons and daughters: who, after we separated ourselves from God, still gave us hope in the promise of the Word.

I believe in God, our Savior, Christ Jesus, who is one with the Creator. Who at the beginning of time called us to be sons and daughters; who loved us so much that he limited himself to life as a human; who was born at Bethlehem, lived in Galilee, walked in Palestine and Israel; who through his life and death and resurrection in this world reunited us with God, bring to us, in his person, God’s all encompassing love and peace.

I believe in God, our Counselor, who is one with the Creator and the Christ. Who from the beginning of time gathers us to be sons and daughters; who feeds us with wisdom, strength, faith and love so that we may come back to God restored to the wholeness for which we were created.

Creed 2:

A: Come, Creator God.

C: Come, Christ Jesus.

A: Come, Holy Spirit.

C: Come be born in us today.

A: For we believe.

C: We believe in one God, yet, three distinct persons: Parent, Brother and Counselor.

God our Parent has given us life, creating the world and everything in it.

God our Brother is Christ Jesus who though immortal was born as a human, lived, died and

rose from the dead that we might be reunited into the family of God.

God the Counselor guides us, leads us and supports us in our daily lives, giving us faith and hope and strength.

A: Come, Creator God.

C: Come, Christ Jesus.

A: Come, Holy Spirit.

C: Come be born in us today.

Creed 1:

We believe in one God, who is Creator, maker of all we see and all we don't see. Who is Ruler of the universe: Source of all creation!

We believe in one God, who is Jesus Christ, God from God, Light from Light, true God and true human. He is one with the Creator; the Word made flesh, our Messiah: Savior of all creation!

We believe in one God, who is Holy Spirit, Breath of God moving among us. Who is one with the Creator; one with the Christ; our Comforter and our Guide: Mentor of all creation!
