Prelude & Lighting of Candles
Epiphany Pre-Service:
The candles are lighted as the following is read:
Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will appear over you. Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. Lift up your eyes and look around; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from far away, and your daughters shall be carried on their nurses' arms. Then you shall see and be radiant; your heart shall thrill and rejoice, because the abundance of the sea shall be brought to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you. A multitude of camels shall cover you, the young camels of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come. They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praise of the LORD. Isaiah 60:1-6

Epiphany Song: Arise, Your Light Has Come! WOV 652
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Hear the word of the Lord at the Epiphany our Christ as found in Matthew 2:1-12.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, "Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage." When King Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They told him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet: 'And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel.'" Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage." When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.
P: The Word of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.
.Praise Song: We Three Kings of Orient Are
Text: John Henry Hopkins Jr., 1820-1891, alt.
Tune: THREE KINGS OF ORIENT
All
We three kings of Orient are;
bearing gifts we traverse afar,
field and fountain, moor and mountain,
following yonder star.
Refrain: Oh, star of wonder, star of night,
star with royal beauty bright;
westward leading, still proceeding,
guide us to thy perfect light!
Born a king on Bethlehem's plain,
gold I bring to crown him again;
king forever, ceasing never,
over us all to reign. Refrain
Men
Frankincense to offer have I;
incense owns a deity nigh;
prayer and praising, gladly raising,
worshiping God Most High.
All Refrain
Women
Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume
breathes a life of gathering gloom;
sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
All Refrain
Glorious now behold him arise,
King and God and Sacrifice;
heav'n sings alleluia:
alleluia the earth replies. Refrain

Profession of Baptismal Faith - Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth;
I believe in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN.Asperges (Sprinkling with Baptismal Water) - Pastor & Assistant

Prayers of the Church
Greeting of Peace:
P: Beloved, let us love one another because love is from God, And everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

P: Those who do not love, do not know God because God is love. The love of God is made visible among us in this way: God’s only son was sent in to the world so that we might live through him.
Response Song: This Is The Way Of Love (from Mt. Carmel Liturgy)

P: This is the way of love: Not that we have loved God But that God has loved us, And sent God’s son to wipe away our sins.

Offering Song: On Jordan’s Banks The Baptist’s Cry v. 1,2,4
Text: Charles Coffin, 1676-1749; tr. composite
Music: European tune, adapt. Michael Praetorius, 1571-1621, Tune: PUER NOBIS
Offering Prayer:
A: Let us pray. Lord of Love,
C: You gave us the greatest gift of all, our Savior Jesus Christ. We ask that you accept the gifts we bring: our possessions, our time and our talents. Use them as You will for your purpose. Thanks be to God. Amen.
Eucharistic Prayer:
P: You know that you were ransomed from the useless way of life
not with perishable things,
silver and gold,
But with the costly blood of Christ—
as a lamb without blot or blemish.
Christ having been known before the foundation of the world
was made visible at the end of time for your sake,
through him the faithful are in God
Who raised him from the dead and gave him glory,
So that your faith and hope are in God. 1 Peter 1:18-21(trans. Annal Frenz)
Response: Wake Up You Who Sleep (from Mt. Carmel Liturgy)

For I received from the Lord
that which I also handed down to you—
that the Lord Jesus
in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;
and after giving thanks, He broke it and said,
“This is My body, which is for you;
do this in remembrance of Me.”
In the same way also He took the cup after supper, saying,
“This cup is the new covenant which is in My blood;
do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup,
you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. I Corinthians 11:23-26 (trans. Annal Frenz)
Response: Through God And With God (from Mt. Carmel Liturgy)

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
