My name is Jason Elliott. I also go by JC. I was born in upstate New York, but moved to Alabama as a toddler, and have lived in various parts of the state for 27 years in total. I'm currently a resident of Northport, Alabama, having moved back "home" again in 2023. I received a B.S. in Geography with a concentration in Meteorology from the University of South Alabama in 1999, and completed an Ed.M. in Human Resource Education with a concentration in eLearning from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in August 2010. As you can tell, I like degrees with concentrations!
I knew from a very young age I wanted to be in the weather field. My father was an Aerographer's Mate in the Navy, and often talked about weather with me growing up. I'm not one of those wild storm chasers you see on TV though; in fact, my two favorite types of weather are sunny and cool -- although I do appreciate a cloudy, drizzly day here and there too!
I was introduced to the field of hydrology shortly after I began my career, and have found it to be challenging, entertaining, and enjoyable...so much so that I transitioned from the field of meteorology into hydrology, part-time in 2002 and full-time in 2010. My hydrology work has had significant focus on internal training and external public education about what we do. This has included both regional-level and national-level training initiatives.

For extremely detailed information about my career:
My primary goal for the Ed.M. program was to learn tools and techniques to better facilitate adult learning within my organization, and potentially outside of it. I have been able to use the tools and skills I learned in the program to develop and deliver sound and technologically-advanced training materials and advance my career.
To attain a leadership position that allows me to utilize education and technology, and continue to develop myself as a lifelong learner, while mentoring and developing early- to mid-career employees to become the next leaders.
