Learning Support

I have curated these apps to support children and teachers who are challenged by literacy and numeracy.

These blog posts also suggest apps to those having challenges with reading/writing.

Remember that many of the apps in the other sections of this Google site will engage and assist dyslexic learners.

iWordQ UK ($30.99)

This is a Clicker like app that can write and speak selections of text and read aloud back to you what you have written. Uses speech recognition with iPad3 to have speech to text functionality and assistive reading selections. Impressed.

Seeing AI (free)

This app is just incredible. Designed for the blind and low vision community, this ongoing research project harnesses the power of AI to open up the visual world and describe nearby people, text and objects. You point your camera at a piece of text and it will read it aloud for you.

Sentence Builder (free)

Sentence Builder can be fully customised with your own pictures, words and sentences. Use it to deconstruct sentences.

Letter Reflex ($5.99)

It's supposed to help people sort b,d,p,q,6,9 type confusions. Maybe I'm a bit dyslexic myself but this confused me even more- other people think it's great, that's why it made it to this website, but for me not so much!

NZSL Dictionary- New Zealand Sign Language Dictionary - (free)

Brilliant app for learning how to sign. You search for a word and you get a pictorial representation of it- and then, if you are on line, you can view a video of someone signing the word.
