Project Plan:

Essentially, I want to compare various aspects of the 50 most popular Holocaust books according to goodreads, which identifies these books based on overall goodreads ratings and the number of times the books have been tagged as "Holocaust." While most of my research at SILS has revolved around the health sciences, particularly immunization, both the Holocaust and literature were focuses of mine as an undergraduate. Before settling on library science, I seriously considered a degree in Holocaust and genocide studies. That interest arose during my junior year at Peace College when I played a Holocaust survivor in a play called A Shayna Maidel. The experience changed my life, particularly the special performance for important members of the Jewish community in Raleigh, NC, including a gentleman who is one of the readers on Holocaust Remembrance Day every year. As for the literary aspect, I have always loved literature. I specifically want to compare and contrast these books based on a number of factors including:

    • fiction vs nonfiction

    • publication year

    • authors affiliation to the Holocaust (survivor, familial connection, unaffiliated, etc.)

    • average goodreads rating

    • number of Holocaust tags on goodreads

    • publication country/language

I want to combine these different comparisons in an infographic using an online tool like infogr.am. I am also open to any suggestions that anyone may have!

Update 2/22/16: This is officially a group project now. Miranda and I have yet to iron out the details of how we will delegate tasks, but the group dynamic will definitely allow us to explore the topic more!
