Chart Critique:

This is a chart from FiveThirtyEight in an article about economic mobility of people coming from different economic backgrounds (http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/rich-kids-stay-rich-poor-kids-stay-poor/). I think overall this chart follows a lot of the guidelines outlined by Few: a) Layout is simple, with few distracting details; for example, grid lines are displayed but are grayed out for emphasis on the data; b) Color is used well, to distinguish data from different categories (i.e. men vs. women); c) The axes are in accordance with his instructions - both are continuous variables and a line is chosen for emphasis on how the employment rate changes as parental income increases; d) A descriptive title is given. My main criticism is that I think clearer axis labels would be useful - even if the subheading was moved below the x-axis to clarify the percentiles and a simple label like "Employment rate at age 30" was added to the y-axis. Also, as a side note, I'd be interested to know what this data looks like over actual parental income, as opposed to percentile.
